Honey Porridge

It’s a first! The first time in my entire life that I actually eat porridge and the first time that I prepared it myself. And yet it has instantly become my new favourite weekend breakfast!

Some might say that it’s a rather boring breakfast, but I’ll always argue against that! You can add different seasonal fruit as a topping – fresh, cooked or steamed – throw in some nuts of your choice and (as this very recipe foresees it) round it all up with a generous dollop of sweet honey.

The honey I used for this recipe comes straight from Bosnia. Honey is probably my favourite food item to bring back from the Balkans. A friend’s mom knows a honey producer in Serbia and he provides the family with it on a regular basis. I have to admit, I am a little jealous. If you’ve ever had honey from the Balkans, and especially honey from Serbia, you will understand, and you will agree!

So now that I’ve found my new favourite breakfast, I somehow have to establish a routine, and maybe – just maybe – I will manage to prepare some quick oats during the week. Fingers crossed on that one!
